There comes a time when a girl's got to hang up her G-string. That was a while back for Madonna

I imagine it's tough to get something that will appeal to everyone... but, come on, Madonna this year and the Black Eyed Peas last year? Ok, lets alienate about 90% of the audience that's watching... if they don't want 75 year old rock headliners, that's fine... but at the same time, rock today is just so generic and boring that I can't listen to it.

What's with this with the halftime shows the past few years? I consider myself to be a pretty typical pro football fan and I've never been into the Black Eyed Peas or Madonna. What's Madonna done lately that gives credence to have her perform at the Super Bowl? Seriously, that was a sucky halftime show! :x

I wouldn't mind seeing Metallica play. Another good band would be AC/DC and they're still touring and putting out records. How many times do you hear "Highway to Hell" being played to stoke the crowd up during games? All the time!

Anyways, it was a great game, coming down to the last play, and I'm glad the Giants won. Eli played played a great game. That was a perfect pass to Manningham on their game-winning drive and an incredible catch by Manningham!

She fits the narrative over the last decade that says she's such a youthful 50+ year old woman that we should hold up as a sex symbol (see Demi Moore, the chicks from Sex and the City, the whole cougar movement, etc).

and she has a new album coming out I guess. woo hoo. yay?

People were complaining about the NFL using all these old fogey stadium rockers post-nippe, so the last couple years, they tried to do something more pop to try to not look like fuddy duddies (how Madonna doesn't fall into the old category I'm not... oh, wait, right, she's a cougar now. Did you see how fit she was? if I hear that one more time...) Likewise, they wanted music that might be more appealing to non-white males in an effort to attract more interest from non-NFL watchers, especially women (you have noticed all the commercials aimed at trying to bring women into the game the last few years, right?) Anyway, with the middle finger, a potential deliberate crotch shot by the same singer, and I guess a few minor cuss words, the NFL might get away from these young hipsters without a cause.

Exactly, most people aren't going to mind a Metallica or AC/DC type set. It's not like they're so old, they were part of the British invasion during the bra burning days. Ozzy may be, but between the classics he's put out that STILL get constant use and the reality show he did, he has a large younger following too.

I know all three put on a hell of a stage show for their own tours, a Super Bowl set could be flat out amazing.

Here's my pick to play next year's Super Bowl half time show:

AC/DC

Back in Black
Highway to Hell
Thunder Struck
Shook me all night long
It's a long way to the top
Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
For those about to rock <- definitely screams halftime show with cannons and fireworks and stuff

Just a couple more songs off the top of my head... you can easily get a 10-12 minute show out of that. AC/DC is THE band for this type of show since it's almost all up tempo feel good stadium stuff

Metallica

Enter Sandman (they played it so much, they hate it now, but it's their signature song)
Broken Beat and Scarred (they're going to want something off their last album and I don't even want to speak about the Lou Reed collaboration they just did)
Battery
Fight fire with fire
Fuel
Motorbreath

Trying to stay family friendly and up tempo (one, for whom the bell tolls, fade to black are classics but are too slow for a halftime show even though they have GREAT visuals live)...
